وَ الضُّحٰی ۙ﴿۱﴾

I CALL TO witness the early hours of morning,

— Ahmedali

By oath of the late morning,

— Ahmedraza

By the morning brightness,

— Daryabadi

By the forenoon (after sun-rise);

— Hilali

By the morning light.

— Itani

By the bright forenoon,

— Maududi

By the forenoon.

— Mubarakpuri

By the morning hours

— Pickthall

By the midmorning,

— Qaribullah

By the morning brightness

— Sahih

I swear by the early hours of the day,

— Shakir

By the glorious morning light;

— Wahiduddin

By the Glorious Morning Light,

قسم ہے دن کی روشنی کی

قَسم ہے چاشت کے وقت کی (جب آفتاب بلند ہو کر اپنا نور پھیلاتا ہے)۔ (یا:- اے حبیبِ مکرّم!) قَسم ہے چاشت (کی طرح آپ کے چہرۂ انور) کی (جس کی تابانی نے تاریک روحوں کو روشن کر دیا)۔ (یا:- قَسم ہے وقتِ چاشت (کی طرح آپ کے آفتابِ رِسالت کے بلند ہونے) کی (جس کے نور نے گمراہی کے اندھیروں کو اجالے سے بدل دیا)،

By the white forenoon

By the morning brightness,

By the midday brightness

— Sarwar

وَ الَّیۡلِ اِذَا سَجٰی ۙ﴿۲﴾

And the night when dark and still,

— Ahmedali

And by oath of the night when it covers,

— Ahmedraza

By the night when it darkeneth,

— Daryabadi

And by the night when it is still (or darkens);

— Hilali

And the night as it settles.

— Itani

and by the night when it covers the world with peace:

— Maududi

By the night when it darkens.

— Mubarakpuri

And by the night when it is stillest,

— Pickthall

and by the night when it covers,

— Qaribullah

And [by] the night when it covers with darkness,

— Sahih

And the night when it covers with darkness.

— Shakir

and by the night when it darkens,

— Wahiduddin

And by the Night when it is still,-

— Yusufali

اور رات کی جب وہ قرار پکڑے۔

اور رات کی جب وہ سنسان ہوجائے

اور رات کی جب وہ چھا جائے !

اور رات کی جب پردہ ڈالے

اور قَسم ہے رات کی جب وہ چھا جائے۔ (یا:- اے حبیبِ مکرّم!) قَسم ہے سیاہ رات کی (طرح آپ کی زلفِ عنبریں کی) جب وہ (آپ کے رُخ زیبا یا شانوں پر) چھا جائے)۔ (یا:- قَسم ہے رات کی (طرح آپ کے حجابِ ذات کی) جب کہ وہ (آپ کے نورِ حقیقت کو کئی پردوں میں) چھپائے ہوئے ہے)،

and the brooding night!

and by the night when it is calm!

— Qarai

and by the calm of night,

— Sarwar

مَا وَدَّعَکَ رَبُّکَ وَ مَا قَلٰی ؕ﴿۳﴾

Your Lord has neither left you, nor despises you.

— Ahmedali

Your Lord has not forsaken you nor does He dislike you!

— Ahmedraza

Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.

— Daryabadi

Your Lord (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) has neither forsaken you nor hated you.

— Hilali

Your Lord did not abandon you, nor did He forget.

— Itani

(O Prophet), your Lord has neither forsaken you, nor is He displeased.

— Maududi

Your Lord has neither forsaken you nor hates you.

— Mubarakpuri

Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee,

— Pickthall

your Lord has not forsaken you (Prophet Muhammad), nor does He hate you.

— Qaribullah

Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you].

— Sahih

Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor has He become displeased,

— Shakir

your Lord has not forsaken you, nor is He displeased with you,

— Wahiduddin

Thy Guardian-Lord hath not forsaken thee, nor is He displeased.

— Yusufali

کہ آپ کے پروردگار نے آپ کو نہ چھوڑا ہے اور نہ آپ سے بیزار ہوا ہے۔

کہ آپ کے پروردگار نے نہ تو آپ کو چھوڑا ہے اور نہ ناراض ہوا ہے

نہ تیرے رب نے تجھے چھوڑا اور نہ وہ ناراض ہوا۔

کہ تمہیں تمہارے رب نے نہ چھوڑا، اور نہ مکروہ جانا،

کہ تیرے خداوند نے نہ تجھے چھوڑا اور نہ تجھ سے بیزار ہوا

آپ ﷺ کے رب نے آپ کو رخصت نہیں کیا اور نہ ہی وہ آپ ﷺ سے ناراض ہوا ہے۔

کہ (اے محمدﷺ) تمہارے پروردگار نے نہ تو تم کو چھوڑا اور نہ (تم سے) ناراض ہوا

نہ تو تیرے رب نے تجھے چھوڑا ہے اور نہ وه بیزار ہو گیا ہے

— محمد جوناگڑھی

کہ تمہارے پروردگار نے نہ تمہیں چھوڑا ہے اور نہ ناراض ہوا ہے۔

(اے نبیؐ) تمہارے رب نے تم کو ہرگز نہیں چھوڑا اور نہ وہ ناراض ہوا

آپ کے رب نے (جب سے آپ کو منتخب فرمایا ہے) آپ کو نہیں چھوڑا اور نہ ہی (جب سے آپ کو محبوب بنایا ہے) ناراض ہوا ہے،

Thy Lord has neither forsaken thee nor hates thee

Your Lord has neither forsaken you, nor is He displeased with you,

(Muhammad), your Lord has not abandoned you (by not sending you His revelation), nor is He displeased with you.

وَ لَلۡاٰخِرَۃُ خَیۡرٌ لَّکَ مِنَ الۡاُوۡلٰی ؕ﴿۴﴾

What is to come is better for you than what has gone before;

— Ahmedali

And indeed the latter is better for you than the former.

— Ahmedraza

And the Hereafter is indeed better Unto thee than the life present.

— Daryabadi

And indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present (life of this world).

— Hilali

The Hereafter is better for you than the First.

— Itani

Indeed what is to come will be better for you than what has gone by.

— Maududi

And indeed the Hereafter is better for you than the present.

— Mubarakpuri

And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former,

— Pickthall

The Last shall be better for you than the First.

— Qaribullah

And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].

— Sahih

And surely what comes after is better for you than that which has gone before.

— Shakir

and the Hereafter will indeed be better for you than the present life;

— Wahiduddin

And verily the Hereafter will be better for thee than the present.

اور آخرت آپ کے لئے دنیا سے (بدرجہا) بہتر ہے۔

اور آپ کے لیے آخری دور ابتدائی دور سے یقینا بہتر ہے

اور یقینا پیچھے آنے والی حالت تیرے لیے پہلی سے بہتر ہے۔

اور بیشک پچھلی تمہارے لیے پہلی سے بہتر ہے

اور بعد کا دور تیرے لئے پہلے سے بہتر ہو گا

اور یقینا بعد کا وقت آپ کے لیے بہتر ہوگا پہلے سے۔

اور آخرت تمہارے لیے پہلی (حالت یعنی دنیا) سے کہیں بہتر ہے

اور بیشک (ہر) بعد کی گھڑی آپ کے لئے پہلے سے بہتر (یعنی باعثِ عظمت و رفعت) ہے،

and the Last shall be better for thee than the First.

and the Hereafter shall be better for you than the world.

The reward in the next life will certainly be better for you than worldly gains.

— Sarwar

وَ لَسَوۡفَ یُعۡطِیۡکَ رَبُّکَ فَتَرۡضٰی ؕ﴿۵﴾

For your Lord will certainly give you, and you will be content.

— Ahmedali

And indeed your Lord will soon give you so much that you will be pleased. (Allah seeks to please the Holy Prophet – peace and blessings be upon him.)

— Ahmedraza

And presently thy Lord shall give Unto thee so that thou shalt be be well-pleased.

— Daryabadi

And verily, your Lord will give you (all i.e. good) so that you shall be well-pleased.

— Hilali

And your Lord will give you, and you will be satisfied.

— Itani

Verily your Lord will soon give you so amply that you will be well-pleased.

— Maududi

And verily, your Lord will give you so that you shall be well-pleased.

— Mubarakpuri

And verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content.

— Pickthall

Your Lord will give you, and you will be satisfied.

— Qaribullah

And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.

— Sahih

And soon will your Lord give you so that you shall be well pleased.

— Shakir

soon you will be gratified with what your Lord will give you.

— Wahiduddin

And soon will thy Guardian-Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well-pleased.

— Yusufali

اور عنقریب آپ کا پروردگار آپ کو اتنا عطا کرے گا کہ آپ خوش ہوجائیں گے۔

اور آپ کا پروردگار آپ کو جلد ہی اتنا کچھ عطا کرے گا کہ آپ خوش ہوجائیں گے

— عبدالرحمٰن کیلانی

اور یقینا عنقریب تیرا رب تجھے عطا کرے گا، پس تو راضی ہوجائے گا۔

اور بیشک قریب ہے کہ تمہارا رب تمہیں اتنا دے گا کہ تم راضی ہوجاؤ گے

اور تیرا خداوند تجھے عطا فرمائے گا پس تو نہال ہوجائے گا

اور عنقریب آپ ﷺ کا رب آپ ﷺ کو اتنا کچھ عطا فرمائے گا کہ آپ ﷺ راضی ہوجائیں گے۔

اور تمہیں پروردگار عنقریب وہ کچھ عطا فرمائے گا کہ تم خوش ہو جاؤ گے

تجھے تیرا رب بہت جلد (انعام) دے گا اور تو راضی (وخوش) ہو جائے گا

اور یقین جانو کہ عنقریب تمہارا پروردگار تمہیں اتنا اتنا دے گا کہ تم خوش ہوجاؤ گے۔

اور عنقریب تمہارا رب تم کو اتنا دے گا کہ تم خوش ہو جاؤ گے

اور آپ کا رب عنقریب آپ کو (اتنا کچھ) عطا فرمائے گا کہ آپ راضی ہو جائیں گے،

Thy Lord shall give thee, and thou shalt be satisfied.

Soon your Lord will give you [that with which] you will be pleased.

Your Lord will soon grant you sufficient favors to please you.

اَلَمۡ یَجِدۡکَ یَتِیۡمًا فَاٰوٰی ۪﴿۶﴾

Did He not find you an orphan and take care of you?

— Ahmedali

Did He not find you an orphan, so provided you shelter?

— Ahmedraza

Found He not thee an orphan, so He sheltered thee?

— Daryabadi

Did He not find you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) an orphan and gave you a refuge?

— Hilali

Did He not find you orphaned, and sheltered you?

— Itani

Did He not find you an orphan and then gave you shelter?

— Maududi

Did He not find you an orphan and gave you a refuge

— Mubarakpuri

Did He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee)?

— Pickthall

Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?

— Qaribullah

Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge?

— Sahih

Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?

Did He not find you orphaned and shelter you?

Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)?

کیا اللہ نے آپ کو یتیم نہیں پایا پھر (آپ کو) ٹھکانا دے دیا

کیا اس نے آپ کو یتیم نہ پایا پھر ٹھکانا فراہم کیا

کیا اس نے تجھے یتیم نہیں پایا، پس جگہ دی۔

کیا اس نے تمہیں یتیم نہ پایا پھر جگہ دی

کیا اس نے تمہیں یتیم نہیں پایا تھا، پھر (تمہیں) ٹھکانا دیا ؟

کیا اس نے تم کو یتیم نہیں پایا اور پھر ٹھکانا فراہم کیا؟

(اے حبیب!) کیا اس نے آپ کو یتیم نہیں پایا پھر اس نے (آپ کو معزّز و مکرّم) ٹھکانا دیا۔ یا- کیا اس نے آپ کو (مہربان) نہیں پایا پھر اس نے (آپ کے ذریعے) یتیموں کو ٹھکانا دیا)٭، ٭ اِس ترجہ میں یتیماً کو فاٰوٰی کا مفعولِ مقدّم قرار دیا گیا ہے۔ (ملاحظہ ہو: التفسیر الکبیر، القرطبی، البحر المحیط، روح البیان، الشفاء اور شرح خفاجی)

Did He not find thee an orphan, and shelter thee?

Did He not find you an orphan, and shelter you?

— Qarai

Did He not find you as an orphan and give you shelter?

— Sarwar

وَ وَجَدَکَ ضَآلًّا فَہَدٰی ۪﴿۷﴾

Did He not find you perplexed, and show you the way?

— Ahmedali

And found you deeply engrossed in His love, so directed you?

— Ahmedraza

And He found thee wandering, so He guided thee,

— Daryabadi

And He found you unaware (of the Quran, its legal laws, and Prophethood, etc.) and guided you?

— Hilali

And found you wandering, and guided you.

— Itani

Did He not find you unaware of the Right Way, and then directed you to it?

— Maududi

And He found you unaware and guided you

— Mubarakpuri

Did He not find thee wandering and direct (thee)?

— Pickthall

Did He not find you a wanderer so He guided you?

— Qaribullah

And He found you lost and guided [you],

— Sahih

And find you lost (that is, unrecognized by men) and guide (them to you)?

— Shakir

Did He not find you wandering, and give you guidance?

— Wahiduddin

And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance.

— Yusufali

اور آپ کو بیخبر پایا سو راستہ بتادیا

— عبدالماجد دریابادی

اور راہ سے بھولا ہوا پایا تو راہ دکھا دی

— عبدالرحمٰن کیلانی

اور اس نے تجھے راستے سے ناواقف پایا تو راستہ دکھا دیا۔

— عبدالسلام بھٹوی

اور تمہیں اپنی محبت میں خود رفتہ پایا تو اپنی طرف راہ دی

جویائے راہ پایا تو راہ نہ دکھائی !

اور آپ ﷺ کو تلاش حقیقت میں سرگرداں پایا تو ہدایت دی !

اور رستے سے ناواقف دیکھا تو رستہ دکھایا

اور تجھے راه بھوﻻ پا کر ہدایت نہیں دی

اور تمہیں راستے سے ناواقف پایا تو راستہ دکھایا

اور تمہیں ناواقف راہ پایا اور پھر ہدایت بخشی

اور اس نے آپ کو اپنی محبت میں خود رفتہ و گم پایا تو اس نے مقصود تک پہنچا دیا۔ یا- اور اس نے آپ کو بھٹکی ہوئی قوم کے درمیان (رہنمائی فرمانے والا) پایا تو اس نے (انہیں آپ کے ذریعے) ہدایت دے دی۔٭، ٭ اِس ترجہ میں ضالاً کو فَھَدٰی کا مفعولِ مقدم قرار دیا گیا ہے۔ (ملاحظہ ہو: التفسیر الکبیر، القرطبی، البحر المحیط، روح البیان، الشفاء اور شرح خفاجی)

Did He not find thee erring, and guide thee?

— Arberry

Did He not find you astray, and guide you?

— Qarai

Did He not find you wandering about and give you guidance?

— Sarwar

وَ وَجَدَکَ عَآئِلًا فَاَغۡنٰی ؕ﴿۸﴾

Did He not find you poor and enrich you?

— Ahmedali

And found you in need, so made you prosperous?

— Ahmedraza

And He found thee destitute, so He enriched thee.

— Daryabadi

And He found you poor, and made you rich (selfsufficient with selfcontentment, etc.)?

— Hilali

And found you in need, and enriched you?

— Itani

And did He not find you in want, and then enriched you?

— Maududi

And He found you poor and made you rich

— Mubarakpuri

Did He not find thee destitute and enrich (thee)?

— Pickthall

Did He not find you poor and suffice you?

— Qaribullah

And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient.

— Sahih

And find you in want and make you to be free from want?

— Shakir

Did He not find you in want, and make you free from want?

— Wahiduddin

And He found thee in need, and made thee independent.

— Yusufali

اور آپ کو نادار پایا تو مالدار بنا دیا۔

اور آپ کو مفلس پایا تو مالدار کردیا

— عبدالرحمٰن کیلانی

` اور اس نے تجھے تنگدست پایا تو غنی کردیا۔

— عبدالسلام بھٹوی

اور تمہیں حاجت مند پایا پھر غنی کردیا

اور محتاج پایا تو غنی نہیں کیا !

اور اس نے آپ ﷺ کو تنگ دست پایا تو غنی کردیا !

اور تنگ دست پایا تو غنی کر دیا

اور تجھے نادار پاکر تونگر نہیں بنا دیا؟

اور تمہیں نادار پایا تو غنی کردیا۔

اور تمہیں نادار پایا اور پھر مالدار کر دیا

اور اس نے آپ کو (وصالِ حق کا) حاجت مند پایا تو اس نے (اپنی لذتِ دید سے نواز کر ہمیشہ کے لئے ہر طلب سے) بے نیاز کر دیا۔ (یا:- اور اس نے آپ کو (جوّاد و کریم) پایا تو اس نے (آپ کے ذریعے) محتاجوں کو غنی کر دیا۔٭، ٭ ان تینوں تراجم میں یَتِیماً کو فَاٰوٰی کا، ضآلًّا کو فَھَدٰی کا اور عائِلًا کو فَاَغنٰی کا مفعولِ مقدم قرار دیا ہے۔ (ملاحظہ ہو: التفسیر الکبیر، القرطبی، البحر المحیط، روح البیان، الشفاء اور شرح خفاجی)

Did He not find thee needy, and suffice thee?

— Arberry

Did He not find you needy, and enrich you?

— Qarai

And did He not find you in need and make you rich?

— Sarwar

فَاَمَّا الۡیَتِیۡمَ فَلَا تَقۡہَرۡ ؕ﴿۹﴾

So do not oppress the orphan,

— Ahmedali

Therefore do not oppress the orphan.

— Ahmedraza

Wherefore as to the orphan, be thou not Unto him overbearing.

— Daryabadi

Therefore, treat not the orphan with oppression,

— Hilali

Therefore, do not mistreat the orphan.

— Itani

Therefore, be not harsh with the orphan;

— Maududi

Therefore, treat not the orphan with oppression.

— Mubarakpuri

Therefor the orphan oppress not,

— Pickthall

Do not oppress the orphan,

— Qaribullah

So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him].

— Sahih

Therefore, as for the orphan, do not oppress (him).

— Shakir

Therefore do not treat the orphan with harshness,

— Wahiduddin

Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness,

— Yusufali

تو آپ بھی یتیم پر سختی نہ کیجئے

— عبدالماجد دریابادی

لہٰذا کسی یتیم پر سختی نہ کیجیے

— عبدالرحمٰن کیلانی

پس لیکن یتیم، پس (اس پر) سختی نہ کر۔

تو یتیم پر دباؤ نہ ڈالو

تو جو یتیم ہے اس کو مت دبائیو

تو آپ ﷺ کسی یتیم پر سختی نہ کریں۔

تو تم بھی یتیم پر ستم نہ کرنا

پس یتیم پر تو بھی سختی نہ کیا کر

اب جو یتیم ہے تم اس پر سختی مت کرنا۔

لہٰذا یتیم پر سختی نہ کرو

سو آپ بھی کسی یتیم پر سختی نہ فرمائیں،

As for the orphan, do not oppress him,

So, as for the orphan, do not oppress him;

Do not oppress the orphans

وَ اَمَّا السَّآئِلَ فَلَا تَنۡہَرۡ ﴿ؕ۱۰﴾

And do not drive the beggar away,

— Ahmedali

And do not rebuke the beggar.

— Ahmedraza

And as to the beggar, chide thou him not.

— Daryabadi

And repulse not the beggar;

— Hilali

Nor rebuff the seeker.

and chide not him who asks,

— Maududi

And repulse not the one who asks.

Therefor the beggar drive not away,

nor drive away the one who asks.

And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him].

And as for him who asks, do not chide (him),

and do not chide the one who asks for help;

And keep recounting the favours of your Lord.

And abundantly proclaim the favours of your Lord.

And as to the favour of thine Lord discourse thou thereof.

And proclaim the Grace of your Lord (i.e. the Prophethood and all other Graces).

And proclaim the grace of your Lord.

Therefor of the bounty of thy Lord be thy discourse.

And as for the favor of your Lord, do announce (it).

but proclaim the blessings of your Lord.

But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim!

اور اپنے پروردگار کی نعمتوں کا تذکرہ بھی کرتے رہا کیجئے۔

اور آپ پر آپ کے پروردگار نے جو انعام کیا ہے اسے بیان کیا کیجیے۔
