اِذَا السَّمَآءُ انۡشَقَّتۡ ۙ﴿۱﴾

1

WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder,

When the heaven breaks apart.

When the heaven is sundered.

When the heaven is split asunder,

When the sky is ruptured.

When the sky is rent asunder

And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful,

And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so;

And hearkens to its Lord, as it must.

And attentive to her Lord in fear,

hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do;

And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

and obeys its Lord as it must,

And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);-

اور اپنے پروردگار کا حکم سن لے۔ اور وہ اسی لائق ہے

اور وہ اپنے پروردگار کا حکم مان لے گا اور یہی اس کا حق ہے

اور اپنے رب کے حکم پر کان لگائے گا اور یہی اس کا حق ہے۔

اور اپنے رب کا حکم سنے اور اسے سزاوار ہی یہ ہے،

اور اپنے خداوند کے حکم کی تعمیل کرے گا اور اس کے لئے یہی زیبا ہے۔

اور اپنے رب کے فرمان کی تعمیل کرے گا اور اُس کے لیے حق یہی ہے (کہ اپنے رب کا حکم مانے)

اور اپنے رب کا حکمِ (اِنشقاق) بجا لائیں گے اور (یہی تعمیلِ اَمر) اُس کے لائق ہے،

in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them,

3

When the earth is stretched out taut

And when the earth is spread out.

And when the earth shall be stretched forth.

And when the earth is leveled out.

and when the earth is stretched out

اور جب زمین کھینچ (کر بڑھا) دی جائے۔

And shall cast forth that which is therein, and shall become empty.

And has cast out all that was in it and became empty,

And casts out what is in it, and becomes empty.

and casts out what is within it and is emptied,

And has cast out all that was in it and became empty.

And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty

and casts out all that is within and voids itself,

And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]

And casts forth what is in it and becomes empty,

اور اپنے اندر کی چیزوں کو نکال پھینکے اور خالی ہوجائے

اور جو کچھ اس میں ہے باہر پھینک دے گی اور خالی ہوجائے گی

اور اس میں جو کچھ ہے اسے باہر پھینک دے گی اور خالی ہوجائے گی۔

اور وہ اپنے پروردگار کا حکم سن کر مان لے گی، اور اس پر لازم ہے کہ یہی کرے (اس وقت انسان کو اپنا انجام معلوم ہوجائے گا)

اور اپنے رب کے حکم کی تعمیل کرے گی اور اُس کے لیے حق یہی ہے (کہ اس کی تعمیل کرے)

اور (وہ بھی) اپنے رب کا حکمِ (اِنشقاق) بجا لائے گی اور (یہی اِطاعت) اُس کے لائق ہے،

یٰۤاَیُّہَا الۡاِنۡسَانُ اِنَّکَ کَادِحٌ اِلٰی رَبِّکَ کَدۡحًا فَمُلٰقِیۡہِ ۚ﴿۶﴾

6

O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him.

— Ahmedali

O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him.

— Ahmedraza

O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him.

— Daryabadi

O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did).

— Hilali

O man! You are laboring towards your Lord, and you will meet Him.

— Itani

O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him.

— Maududi

O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions, a sure returning, and you will meet.

— Mubarakpuri

Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence).

— Pickthall

O human, you are working hard towards your Lord and you will meet Him.

— Qaribullah

O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it.

— Sahih

O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him.

— Shakir

O man, having striven hard towards your Lord, you shall meet Him:

— Wahiduddin

O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him.

— Yusufali

اے انسان تو کام میں جتا رہتا ہے اپنے پروردگار کے پاس پہنچنے تک پھر اس سے جا ملے گا۔

— عبدالماجد دریابادی

اے انسان تو تکلیف سہہ سہہ کر کشاں کشاں اپنے پروردگار کی طرف جارہا ہے پھر تو اس سے ملنے والا ہے

— عبدالرحمٰن کیلانی

اے انسان ! بیشک تو مشقت کرتے کرتے اپنے رب کی طرف جانے والا ہے، سخت مشقت، پھر اس سے ملنے والا ہے۔

اے آدمی! بیشک تجھے اپنے رب کی طرف ضرور دوڑنا ہے پھر اس سے ملنا

— احمد رضا خان

اے انسان، تو کشاں کشاں اپنے خداوند ہی کی طرف جا رہا ہے اور اس سے ملنے والا ہے۔

— امین احسن اصلاحی

اے انسان ! تو مشقت پر مشقت برداشت کرتے جا رہا ہے اپنے رب کی طرف پھر تو اس سے ملنے والا ہے۔

اے انسان! تو اپنے پروردگار کی طرف (پہنچنے میں) خوب کوشِش کرتا ہے سو اس سے جا ملے گا

اے انسان! تو اپنے رب سے ملنے تک یہ کوشش اور تمام کام اور محنتیں کرکے اس سے ملاقات کرنے واﻻ ہے

— محمد جوناگڑھی

اے انسان ! تو اپنے پروردگار کے پاس پہنچنے تک مسلسل کسی محنت میں لگا رہے گا، یہاں تک کہ اس سے جا ملے گا۔

اے انسان، تو کشاں کشاں اپنے رب کی طرف چلا جا رہا ہے، اور اُس سے ملنے والا ہے

اے انسان! تو اپنے رب تک پہنچنے میں سخت مشقتیں برداشت کرتا ہے بالآخر تجھے اسی سے جا ملنا ہے،

O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him.

O man! You are labouring toward your Lord laboriously, and you will encounter Him.

Human being, you strive hard to get closer to your Lord, and so you will certainly receive the recompense (of your deeds).

فَاَمَّا مَنۡ اُوۡتِیَ کِتٰبَہٗ بِیَمِیۡنِہٖ ۙ﴿۷﴾

7

And he who is given his ledger in his right hand

— Ahmedali

So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand –

— Ahmedraza

Then as to him who shall be given his book in his right hand -

— Daryabadi

Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand,

— Hilali

As for him who is given his book in his right hand.

— Itani

Whoever is given the Record in his right hand

— Maududi

Then as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand,

— Mubarakpuri

Then whoso is given his account in his right hand

— Pickthall

Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand

— Qaribullah

Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand,

— Sahih

Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand,

he who is given his record in his right hand

Then he who is given his Record in his right hand,

تو جس کسی کا نامہ عمل اسکے داہنے ہاتھ میں ملے گا

پھر جس کا نامہ اعمال اس کے دائیں ہاتھ میں دیا گیا

پس لیکن وہ شخص جسے اس کا اعمال نامہ اس کے دائیں ہاتھ میں دیا گیا۔

Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand,

The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands

فَسَوۡفَ یُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا یَّسِیۡرًا ۙ﴿۸﴾

8

Will have an easy reckoning,

— Ahmedali

Soon an easy account will be taken from him.

— Ahmedraza

His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning.

— Daryabadi

He surely will receive an easy reckoning,

— Hilali

He will have an easy settlement.

— Itani

shall be called to an easy accounting,

— Maududi

He surely will receive an easy reckoning,

— Mubarakpuri

He truly will receive an easy reckoning

shall have an easy reckoning

He will be judged with an easy account

He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning,

Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning,

سو اس سے آسان حساب لیاجائے گا

تو اس سے جلد ہی آسان سا حساب لیا جائے گا

سو عنقریب اس سے حساب لیا جائے گا، نہایت آسان حساب۔

وَّ یَنۡقَلِبُ اِلٰۤی اَہۡلِہٖ مَسۡرُوۡرًا ؕ﴿۹﴾

9

And will return to his people full of joy.

— Ahmedali

And he will return to his family rejoicing.

— Ahmedraza

And he shall return Unto his people joyfully.

— Daryabadi

And will return to his family in joy!

— Hilali

And will return to his family delighted.

— Itani

and shall return to his people joyfully.

— Maududi

And will return to his family Masrur (in joy)!

— Mubarakpuri

And will return unto his folk in joy.

— Pickthall

and will return rejoicing to his family.

— Qaribullah

And return to his people in happiness.

— Sahih

And he shall go back to his people joyful.

— Shakir

and he shall return to his people, joyfully,

— Wahiduddin

And he will turn to his people, rejoicing!

— Yusufali

اور وہ اپنے والوں کے پاس خوش خوش لوٹ کر آئے گا۔

— عبدالماجد دریابادی

اور وہ خوش بہ خوش اپنے اہل خانہ کی طرف لوٹے گا

اور وہ اپنے گھر والوں کی طرف خوش خوش واپس آئے گا۔

اور اپنے گھر والوں کی طرف شاد شاد پلٹے گا

اور وہ اپنے لوگوں کے پاس نہایت شادمند لوٹے گا۔

اور وہ لوٹے گا اپنے گھر والوں کی طرف شاداں وفرحاں۔

اور وہ اپنے گھر والوں میں خوش خوش آئے گا

10

But he who is given his ledger from behind his back

And whoever is given his record of deeds behind his back –

And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back-

But whosoever is given his Record behind his back,

But as for him who is given his book behind his back.

اور جس کسی کا نامہ عمل اس کی پیٹھ کے پیچھے سے ملے گا

رہا وہ شخص جس کا اعمال نامہ اس کی پشت کے پیچھے سے دیا جائے گا

اور لیکن وہ شخص جسے اس کا اعمال نامہ اس کی پیٹھ کے پیچھے دیا گیا۔

اور وہ جس کا نامہٴ اعمال اس کی پیٹھ کے پیچھے دیا جائے

رہاوہ جس کا اعمال نامہ اس کے پیچھے سے پکڑا دیا جائے گا

اور جس کو دیا جائے گا اس کا اعمالنامہ اس کی پیٹھ کے پیچھے سے۔

Will pray for death,

Soon he will pray for death.

He shall presently call for death,

He will invoke (his) destruction,

He will call for death.

shall cry for “perdition,”

And shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning.

And will enter the Blaze.

and will enter the Blazing Fire.

And he shall enter a blazing Fire, and made to taste its burning.

And be thrown to scorching fire.

and roast at the Blaze.

And [enter to] burn in a Blaze.

And enter into burning fire.

and he will enter the blazing flame.

اور جہنم میں پڑے گا

He lived rejoicing among his people,

Verily he was among his people joyous.

Verily, he was among his people in joy!

He used to be happy among his family.

He used to live joyfully among his people,

Once, he lived joyfully among his family

Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness;

Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers.

Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing!

وہ اپنے والوں میں خوش خوش رہا کرتا تھا

Never thinking he will return.

Verily he imagined that he would not be back.

Verily, he thought that he would never come back (to Us)!

He thought he would never return.

thinking he would never revert (to Us).

Verily, he thought that he would never return!

He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah).

and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord).

Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah].

Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)!

اس نے خیال کر رکھا تھا کہ اسے لوٹنا نہیں ہے

Why not? His Lord was always watching him.

Surely yes, why not? Indeed his Lord is seeing him.

— Ahmedraza

Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him.

— Daryabadi

Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him!

— Hilali

In fact, his Lord was watching him.

— Itani

But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him.

— Maududi

Yes! Verily, his Lord has been ever beholding him!

— Mubarakpuri

Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him!

Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him.

But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing.

Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him.

So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight,

So by oath of the late evening’s light.

I swear by the afterglow of sunset,

— Daryabadi

So I swear by the afterglow of sunset;

— Hilali

I swear by the twilight.

— Itani

Nay; I swear by the twilight;

— Maududi

But no! I swear by Ash-Shafaq;

— Mubarakpuri

Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset,

I swear by the twilight;

— Qaribullah

So I swear by the twilight glow

But nay! I swear by the sunset redness,

I swear by the glow of sunset,

So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset;

میں قسم کھاتا ہوں شفق کی

And by the night and all that it enshroudeth,

by the night and all that it envelops;

And [by] the night and what it envelops

And the night and that which it drives on,

The Night and its Homing;

اور رات کی اور ان چیزوں کی جنہیں وہ سمیٹ لیتی ہے

And by the moon when she becometh full.

And by the moon when it is at the full,

And by the moon, as it grows full.

— Itani

and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness:

And the moon when it Ittasaq.

— Mubarakpuri

And by the moon when she is at the full,

by the moon, in its fullness

— Qaribullah

And [by] the moon when it becomes full

And the moon when it grows full,

and the moon when it grows full,

And the Moon in her fullness:

اور چاند کی جب وہ پورا ہوجائے۔

That you will climb from stage to stage.

You will surely go up level by level.

Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer.

— Daryabadi

You shall certainly travel from stage to stage (in this life and in the Hereafter).

— Hilali

You will mount stage by stage.

— Itani

you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage.

— Maududi

You shall certainly travel from stage

— Mubarakpuri

That ye shall journey on from plane to plane.

that you shall surely ride from stage to stage.

[That] you will surely experience state after state.

— Sahih

That you shall most certainly enter one state after another.

you will progress from stage to stage.

Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage.

کہ تم کو ضرور ایک حالت کے بعد دوسری حالت پر پہنچنا ہے۔

کہ تم ایک حالت سے اگلی حالت کو چڑھتے چلے جاؤ گے

کہ تم ضرور ہی ایک حالت سے دوسری حالت کو چڑھتے جاؤ گے۔

ضرور تم منزل بہ منزل چڑھو گے

So, wherefore do they not believe?

What is the matter with them that they do not accept faith?

What aileth them then, that they believe not,

What is the matter with them, that they believe not?

What is the matter with them that they do not believe?

So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe,

What is the matter with them, that they believe not

What aileth them, then, that they believe not

What is the matter with them, that they do not believe

So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe,

وَ اِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَیۡہِمُ الۡقُرۡاٰنُ لَا یَسۡجُدُوۡنَ ﴿ؕٛ۲۱﴾

21

And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration?

— Ahmedali

And when the Qur’an is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate? (Command of Prostration # 13)

— Ahmedraza

And that, when the Qur'an is read Unto them, they prostrate not them-selves!

— Daryabadi

And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate,

— Hilali

And when the Quran is read to them, they do not bow down?

— Itani

and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves?

— Maududi

And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they fall not prostrate.

And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)?

— Pickthall

and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate!

— Qaribullah

And when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate [to Allah]?

And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance?

— Shakir

When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees?

And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate,

اور جب ان کے سامنے قرآن پڑھا جاتا ہے تو جھکتے نہیں۔

اور جب ان پر قرآن پڑھا جائے تو سجدہ نہیں کرتے

اور جب ان کے سامنے قرآن پڑھا جاتا ہے تو وہ سجدہ نہیں کرتے۔

اور جب ان کے سامنے قرآن پڑھا جاتا ہے تو سجدہ نہیں کرتے

اور جب ان کے پاس قرآن پڑھا جاتا ہے تو سجده نہیں کرتے

اور جب ان کے سامنے قرآن پڑھا جاتا ہے تو وہ سجدہ نہیں کرتے ؟

اور جب قرآن اِن کے سامنے پڑھا جاتا ہے تو سجدہ نہیں کرتے؟

Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves?

بَلِ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا یُکَذِّبُوۡنَ ﴿۫ۖ۲۲﴾

In fact the unbelievers disavow.

— Ahmedali

In fact the disbelievers keep denying.

— Ahmedraza

Yea those who disbelieve belie.

— Daryabadi

Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.).

— Hilali

In fact, those who disbelieve are in denial.

— Itani

Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie.

— Maududi

Nay, those who disbelieve deny.

— Mubarakpuri

Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny;

— Pickthall

No, the unbelievers only belie,

— Qaribullah

But those who have disbelieved deny,

— Sahih

Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth.

— Shakir

Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it --

— Wahiduddin

But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it).

بلکہ یہ کافر الٹی تکذیب کرتے ہیں

بلکہ کافر لوگ تو (الٹا) جھٹلا دیتے ہیں

بلکہ وہ لوگ جنھوں نے کفر کیا جھٹلاتے ہیں۔

بلکہ کافر جھٹلا رہے ہیں

بلکہ جنہوں نے کفر کیا وہ جھٹلا رہے ہیں

بلکہ کافر لوگ (اسے مزید) جھٹلا رہے ہیں،

Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies,

Indeed, the faithless impugn [the Apostle],

In fact, they reject the Quran,

وَ اللّٰہُ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یُوۡعُوۡنَ ﴿۫ۖ۲۳﴾

23

But God knows what they harbour in their breasts.

— Ahmedali

And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts.

— Ahmedraza

Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish.

— Daryabadi

And Allah knows best what they gather (of good and bad deeds),

— Hilali

But God knows what they hide inside.

— Itani

Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record).

— Maududi

And Allah knows best what they gather,

— Mubarakpuri

And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding.

— Pickthall

and Allah knows very well what they gather.

— Qaribullah

And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves.

— Sahih

And Allah knows best what they hide,

— Shakir

God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts.

But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts)

اور اللہ کو خوب معلوم ہے جو کچھ یہ لوگ جمع کررہے ہیں

اور اللہ خوب جانتا ہے کہ جو کچھ وہ (دلوں میں) محفوظ رکھتے ہیں

— عبدالرحمٰن کیلانی

اور اللہ زیادہ جاننے والا ہے جو کچھ وہ جمع کررہے ہیں۔

اور اللہ خوب جانتا ہے جو اپنے جی میں رکھتے ہیں

اور اللہ خوب جانتا ہے جو کچھ یہ جمع کر رہے ہیں

اور اللہ کو خوب معلوم ہے کہ یہ لوگ (اپنے اندر) کیا بھرے ہوئے ہیں۔

اور جو کچھ یہ جمع کر رہے ہیں، اللہ کو خوب معلوم ہے۔

حالانکہ جو کچھ یہ (اپنے نامہ اعمال میں) جمع کر رہے ہیں اللہ اُسے خوب جانتا ہے

اور اللہ (کفر و عداوت کے اس سامان کو) خوب جانتا ہے جو وہ جمع کر رہے ہیں،

and God knows very well what they are secreting.

and Allah knows best what they keep to themselves.

but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts.

فَبَشِّرۡہُمۡ بِعَذَابٍ اَلِیۡمٍ ﴿ۙ۲۴﴾

So give them news of painful punishment,

— Ahmedali

Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment.

— Ahmedraza

Wherefore announce thou Unto them a torment afflictive.

— Daryabadi

So announce to them a painful torment.

— Hilali

So inform them of a painful punishment.

— Itani

So give them the good news of a painful chastisement,

— Maududi

So, announce to them a painful torment.

So give them tidings of a painful doom,

— Pickthall

Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment,

So give them tidings of a painful punishment,

سو آپ انہیں ایک عذاب دردناک کی خبر دے دیجئے

پس انھیں ایک دردناک عذاب کی خوشخبری دے دے۔

اِلَّا الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَ عَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ لَہُمۡ اَجۡرٌ غَیۡرُ مَمۡنُوۡنٍ ﴿٪۲۵﴾

25

Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending.

— Ahmedali

Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end.

— Ahmedraza

But those who believe and work righteous works, theirs shall be a hire unending.

— Daryabadi

Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise).

— Hilali

Except those who believe and do good deeds; they will have an undiminished reward.

— Itani

except for those who believe and do good deeds. Theirs shall be an unending reward.

— Maududi

Save those who believe and

Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing.

except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense.

— Qaribullah

Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted.

Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off.

But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward.

Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail.

البتہ جو لوگ ایمان لائے اور انہوں نے اچھے عمل کئے ان کے لئے تو ایسا اجر ہے جو کبھی موقوف ہونے والا نہیں۔

البتہ جو لوگ ایمان لائے اور انہوں نے نیک عمل کیے ان کے لیے اجر ہے جو کبھی منقطع نہ ہوگا۔

مگر وہ لوگ جو ایمان لائے اور انھوں نے نیک عمل کیے، ان کے لیے نہ ختم ہونے والا اجر ہے۔

مگر جو ایمان لائے اور اچھے کام کیے ان کے لیے وہ ثواب ہے جو کبھی ختم نہ ہوگا،

البتہ جو لوگ ایمان لے آئے ہیں اور انہوں نے نیک عمل کیے ہیں، ان کو ایسا ثواب ملے گا جو کبھی ختم نہیں ہوگا۔
