اَلَمۡ تَرَ کَیۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّکَ بِاَصۡحٰبِ الۡفِیۡلِ ؕ﴿۱﴾

HAVE YOU NOT seen how your Lord dealt with the people of the elephants?

— Ahmedali

O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him), did you not see how did your Lord deal with the People of the Elephant?

— Ahmedraza

Hast thou not observed what wise thy Lord dealt with the fellows of the elephant?

— Daryabadi

Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not seen how your Lord dealt with the Owners of the Elephant? [The elephant army which came from Yemen under the command of Abrahah Al-Ashram intending to destroy the Ka'bah at Makkah].

— Hilali

Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant?

— Itani

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the people of the elephants?

— Maududi

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the Owners of the Elephant

— Mubarakpuri

Hast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant?

— Pickthall

Have you not seen how Allah dealt with the companions of the Elephant?

— Qaribullah

Have you not considered, [O Muhammad], how your Lord dealt with the companions of the elephant?

Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the possessors of the elephant?

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the people of the elephant?

Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the Companions of the Elephant?

کیا آپ کو معلوم نہیں کہ آپ کے پروردگار نے ہاتھی والوں سے کیا معاملہ کیا۔

کیا آپ نے دیکھا نہیں کہ آپ کے پروردگار نے ہاتھی والوں سے کیا برتاؤ کیا

اَلَمۡ یَجۡعَلۡ کَیۡدَہُمۡ فِیۡ تَضۡلِیۡلٍ ۙ﴿۲﴾

Did He not make their plan go wrong,

— Ahmedali

Did He not put their scheme into ruin?

— Ahmedraza

Put He not their stratagem to straying.

— Daryabadi

Did He not make their plot go astray?

— Hilali

Did He not make their plan go wrong?

— Itani

Did He not bring their plan to naught?

— Maududi

Did He not make their plot go astray

— Mubarakpuri

Did He not bring their stratagem to naught,

— Pickthall

Did He not cause their schemes to go astray?

— Qaribullah

Did He not make their plan into misguidance?

— Sahih

Did He not cause their war to end in confusion,

— Shakir

Did He not foil their strategy

— Wahiduddin

Did He not make their treacherous plan go astray?

— Yusufali

کیا ہم نے ان کا داؤں بالکل الٹ نہیں دیا ؟۔

کیا اس نے ان کی تدبیر کو بےکار نہیں بنادیا تھا ؟

کیا اس نے ان کی تدبیر کو بےکار نہیں کردیا ؟

Did He not make their guile to go astray?

Did He not cause their evil plots to fail

وَّ اَرۡسَلَ عَلَیۡہِمۡ طَیۡرًا اَبَابِیۡلَ ۙ﴿۳﴾

And sent hordes of chargers flying against them,

— Ahmedali

And send flocks of birds upon them,

— Ahmedraza

And He sent against them birds in flocks.

— Daryabadi

And sent against them birds, in flocks,

— Hilali

He sent against them swarms of birds.

— Itani

And He sent against them swarms of birds

— Maududi

And He sent against them birds, in flocks (Ababil).

— Mubarakpuri

And send against them swarms of flying creatures,

— Pickthall

And He sent against them flights of birds

— Qaribullah

And He sent against them birds in flocks,

— Sahih

And send down (to prey) upon them birds in flocks,

— Shakir

and send against them flocks of birds,

— Wahiduddin

And He sent against them Flights of Birds,

— Yusufali

اور ان پر جھنڈ کے جھنڈ پرندے بھیج دیئے

اور ان پرندوں کے غول کے غول بھیج دیے

اور ان پر جھنڈ کے جھنڈ پرندے بھیج دیے۔

اور ان پر پرندوں کی ٹکڑیاں (فوجیں) بھیجیں

اور ان پر جھنڈ کی جھنڈ چڑیاں نہ بھیجیں ! !

And He loosed upon them birds in flights,

تَرۡمِیۡہِمۡ بِحِجَارَۃٍ مِّنۡ سِجِّیۡلٍ ۪ۙ﴿۴﴾

(While) you were pelting them with stones of porphyritic lava,

— Ahmedali

Which hit them with stones of baked clay,

— Ahmedraza

They hurled upon them stones of baked clay;

— Daryabadi

Striking them with stones of Sijjil.

— Hilali

Throwing at them rocks of baked clay.

— Itani

which smote them with stones of baked clay,

— Maududi

Striking them with stones of Sijjil.

— Mubarakpuri

Which pelted them with stones of baked clay,

— Pickthall

pelting them with stones of baked clay,

— Qaribullah

Striking them with stones of hard clay,

— Sahih

Casting against them stones of baked clay,

which pelted them with clay stones?

Striking them with stones of baked clay.

وہ ان پر کھنگر کی کنکریاں پھنکتے تھے

جو ان پر کنکروں کے پتھر پھینکتے تھے

جو ان پر کھنگر (پکی ہوئی مٹی) کی پتھریاں پھینکتے تھے۔

which showered them with small pebbles of clay

فَجَعَلَہُمۡ کَعَصۡفٍ مَّاۡکُوۡلٍ ٪﴿۵﴾

And turned them into pastured fields of corn?

— Ahmedali

So He made them like the leftover devoured leaves of farms?

— Ahmedraza

Then He rendered them as stubble devoured.

— Daryabadi

And made them like an empty field of stalks (of which the corn has been eaten up by cattle).

— Hilali

Leaving them like chewed-up leaves.

— Itani

and made them like straw eaten up (by cattle).

— Maududi

And He made them like `Asf, Ma'kul.

— Mubarakpuri

And made them like green crops devoured (by cattle)?

— Pickthall

so that He made them like straw eaten (by cattle).

— Qaribullah

And He made them like eaten straw.

— Sahih

So He rendered them like straw eaten up?

— Shakir

Thus He made them like stubble cropped by cattle?

— Wahiduddin

Then did He make them like an empty field of stalks and straw, (of which the corn) has been eaten up.

— Yusufali

سو (اللہ نے انہیں کھائے ہوئے بھوسہ کی طرح کردیا۔

پھر انہیں یوں بنادیا جیسے کھایا ہوا بھوسا ہو

تو اس نے انھیں کھائے ہوئے بھس کی طرح کردیا۔

تو انہیں کر ڈالا جیسے کھائی کھیتی کی پتی (بھوسہ)

بالآخر ان کو اللہ نے کھائے ہوئے بھس کی طرح کردیا۔

پھر اس نے کردیا ان کو کھائے ہوئے بھس کی طرح۔

تو ان کو ایسا کر دیا جیسے کھایا ہوا بھس

پھر اُن کا یہ حال کر دیا جیسے جانوروں کا کھایا ہوا بھوسا

پھر (اﷲ نے) ان کو کھائے ہوئے بھوسے کی طرح (پامال) کر دیا،

and He made them like green blades devoured.

thus making them like chewed-up straw?

to turn them into (something) like the left-over grass grazed by cattle.
