اَلۡہٰکُمُ التَّکَاثُرُ ۙ﴿۱﴾

THE AVARICE OF plenitude keeps you occupied

— Ahmedali

The craving for excess wealth kept you people neglectful.

— Ahmedraza

The emulous desire of abundance engrosseth you,

— Daryabadi

The mutual rivalry for piling up of worldly things diverts you,

— Hilali

Abundance distracts you.

— Itani

The craving for ever-greater worldly gains and to excel others in that regard keeps you occupied

— Maududi

The mutual increase diverts you,

— Mubarakpuri

Rivalry in worldly increase distracteth you

— Pickthall

The excessive gathering (of increase and boasting) occupied you (from worshipping and obeying)

— Qaribullah

Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you

— Sahih

Abundance diverts you,

— Shakir

Greed for more and more distracted you [from God]

— Wahiduddin

The mutual rivalry for piling up (the good things of this world) diverts you (from the more serious things),

فخر کرنا تمہیں غافل کئے رہتا ہے

تمہیں کثرت (کی ہوس) نے غافل کر رکھا ہے

تمہیں ایک دوسرے سے زیادہ حاصل کرنے کی حرص نے غافل کردیا۔

تمہیں غافل رکھا مال کی زیادہ طلبی نے

تم کو طلب مال کی مسابقت نے غفلت میں ڈالے رکھا

حَتّٰی زُرۡتُمُ الۡمَقَابِرَ ؕ﴿۲﴾

Till you reach the grave.

Until you confronted the graves.

— Ahmedraza

Until ye visit the graves.

— Daryabadi

Until you visit the graves (i.e. till you die).

— Hilali

Until you visit the graveyards.

— Itani

until you reach your graves.

— Maududi

Until you visit the graves.

— Mubarakpuri

Until ye come to the graves.

— Pickthall

until you visit the graves.

— Qaribullah

Until you visit the graveyards.

— Sahih

Until you come to the graves.

— Shakir

till you reached the grave.

— Wahiduddin

Until ye visit the graves.

تاآنکہ تم قبرستانوں میں پہنچ جاتے ہو۔

تاآنکہ تم قبروں کو جا ملتے ہو

یہاں تک کہ تم نے قبرستان جا دیکھے۔

کَلَّا سَوۡفَ تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ ۙ﴿۳﴾

But you will come to know soon; --

Yes certainly, you will soon realise!

Lo! presently ye shall know.

— Daryabadi

Nay! You shall come to know!

— Hilali

Indeed, you will know.

— Itani

Nay, you will soon come to know;

— Maududi

Nay! You shall come to know!

— Mubarakpuri

Nay, but ye will come to know!

— Pickthall

But no, indeed, you shall soon know.

— Qaribullah

No! You are going to know.

— Sahih

Nay! you shall soon know,

— Shakir

But you will soon come to know.

— Wahiduddin

But nay, ye soon shall know (the reality).

— Yusufali

ہاں ہاں تمہیں عنقریب معلوم ہوا جاتا ہے

— عبدالماجد دریابادی

ایسا ہرگز نہیں چاہئے، جلد ہی تم جان لو گے

— عبدالرحمٰن کیلانی

ہرگز نہیں، تم جلدی جان لوگے۔

ہاں ہاں جلد جان جاؤ گے

ہرگز نہیں، تم آگے جانو گے !

کوئی بات نہیں ! بہت جلد تمہیں معلوم ہوجائے گا۔

Then no! You are going to know.

Nay! Nay! you shall soon know.

But you will soon come to know.

Again, ye soon shall know!

ہاں ہاں پھر تمہیں عنقریب معلوم ہوا جاتا ہے۔

پھر (سن لو) ایسا ہرگز نہیں چاہیے، جلد ہی تم جان لو گے

پھر ہرگز نہیں، تم جلدی جان لوگے۔

پھر ہاں ہاں جلد جان جاؤ گے

ہاں، ہرگز نہیں، تم آگے جان لو گے !

پھر کوئی بات نہیں ! بہت جلد تمہیں معلوم ہوجائے گا۔

پھر (آگاہ کیا جاتا ہے:) ہرگز نہیں! عنقریب تمہیں (اپنا انجام) معلوم ہو جائے گا،

Again, no indeed; but soon you shall know.

No indeed, soon you will know for yet another time!

You shall cetainly know (about the consequences of your deeds).

کَلَّا لَوۡ تَعۡلَمُوۡنَ عِلۡمَ الۡیَقِیۡنِ ؕ﴿۵﴾

And yet if you knew with positive knowledge

— Ahmedali

Yes certainly, if you had believed with certainty, you would not have craved for wealth.

— Ahmedraza

Lo! would that ye knew now with the surety of knowledge!

— Daryabadi

Nay! If you knew with a sure knowledge (the end result of piling up, you would not have occupied yourselves in worldly things)

— Hilali

If you knew with knowledge of certainty.

— Itani

Nay, would that you knew with certainty of knowledge (what your attitude will lead to, you would never have acted the way you do).

— Maududi

Nay! If you knew with a sure knowledge.

— Mubarakpuri

Nay, would that ye knew (now) with a sure knowledge!

— Pickthall

Indeed, did you know with certain knowledge

— Qaribullah

No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty...

— Sahih

Nay! if you had known with a certain knowledge,

— Shakir

Indeed, were you to know the truth with certainty,

— Wahiduddin

Nay, were ye to know with certainty of mind, (ye would beware!)

— Yusufali

ہاں اور ہاں کاش تم یقینی طور پر جان لیتے !۔

— عبدالماجد دریابادی

ایسا ہرگز نہیں چاہیے کاش ! تم یقینی طور پر جان لیتے

— عبدالرحمٰن کیلانی

ہرگز نہیں، کاش ! تم جان لیتے، یقین کا جاننا۔

— عبدالسلام بھٹوی

ہاں ہاں اگر یقین کا جاننا جانتے تو مال کی محبت نہ رکھتے

ہرگز نہیں، اگر تم یقین کے ساتھ جانتے

کوئی بات نہیں ! کاش کہ تم علم یقین کے ساتھ جان جاتے !

دیکھو اگر تم جانتے (یعنی) علم الیقین (رکھتے تو غفلت نہ کرتے)

ہرگز نہیں اگر تم یقینی طور پر جان لو

ہرگز نہیں ! اگر تم یقینی علم کے ساتھ یہ بات جانتے ہوتے (تو ایسا نہ کرتے)

ہرگز نہیں، اگر تم یقینی علم کی حیثیت سے (اِس روش کے انجام کو) جانتے ہوتے (تو تمہارا یہ طرز عمل نہ ہوتا)

ہاں ہاں! کاش تم (مال و زَر کی ہوس اور اپنی غفلت کے انجام کو) یقینی علم کے ساتھ جانتے (تو دنیا میں کھو کر آخرت کو اس طرح نہ بھولتے)،

No indeed; did you know with the knowledge of certainty,

Indeed, were you to know with certain knowledge,

— Qarai

You will certainly have the knowledge of your deeds beyond all doubt.

— Sarwar

لَتَرَوُنَّ الۡجَحِیۡمَ ۙ﴿۶﴾

You have indeed to behold Hell;

— Ahmedali

Indeed you will see hell.

— Ahmedraza

Surely ye shall behold theScorch.

— Daryabadi

Verily, You shall see the blazing Fire (Hell)!

— Hilali

You would see the Inferno.

— Itani

You will surely end up seeing Hell;

— Maududi

Verily, you shall see the blazing Fire!

— Mubarakpuri

For ye will behold hell-fire.

— Pickthall

that you shall surely see Hell?

— Qaribullah

You will surely see the Hellfire.

— Sahih

You should most certainly have seen the hell;

— Shakir

you would see the fire of Hell.

— Wahiduddin

Ye shall certainly see Hell-Fire!

تم یقیناً دوزخ کو دیکھ کر رہو گے۔

— عبدالماجد دریابادی

کہ تمہیں ضرور جہنم کو دیکھنا ہے

کہ یقینا تم ضرور جہنم کو دیکھو گے۔

بیشک ضرور جنہم کو دیکھو گے

ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّہَا عَیۡنَ الۡیَقِیۡنِ ۙ﴿۷﴾

Then you will see it with the eye of certainty.

Again, indeed you will see it with certainty.

— Ahmedraza

Then ye shall surely beholdwith the surety of vision.

— Daryabadi

And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight!

— Hilali

Then you will see it with the eye of certainty.

— Itani

again, you shall most certainly end up seeing it with absolute certainty.

— Maududi

And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight!

— Mubarakpuri

Aye, ye will behold it with sure vision.

— Pickthall

Again, you shall surely see it with the sight of certainty.

— Qaribullah

Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.

— Sahih

Then you shall most certainly see it with the eye of certainty;

— Shakir

You would see it with the eye of certainty.

— Wahiduddin

Again, ye shall see it with certainty of sight!

— Yusufali

پھر یقیناً تم لوگ اسے ایسا دیکھنا دیکھو گے جو خود یقین ہے۔

— عبدالماجد دریابادی

پھر (سن لو) کہ تم اسے آنکھوں دیکھے یقین کے ساتھ دیکھ لو گے۔

پھر یقینا تم ضرور اسے یقین کی آنکھ سے دیکھ لوگے۔

پھر بیشک ضرور اسے یقینی دیکھنا دیکھو گے،

، پھر تم اس کو یقین کی آنکھوں سے دیکھو گے

پھر تم اس کو عین الیقین کے ساتھ دیکھو گے۔

پھر اس کو (ایسا) دیکھو گے (کہ) عین الیقین (آ جائے گا)

اور تم اسے یقین کی آنکھ سے دیکھ لو گے

پھر یقین جانو کہ تم اسے بالکل یقین کے ساتھ دیکھ لو گے۔

پھر (سن لو کہ) تم بالکل یقین کے ساتھ اُسے دیکھ لو گے

پھر تم اسے ضرور یقین کی آنکھ سے دیکھ لو گے،

Again, you shall surely see it with the eye of certainty

Afterward you will surely see it with the eye of certainty.

and you will see it with your own eyes.

— Sarwar

ثُمَّ لَتُسۡـَٔلُنَّ یَوۡمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِیۡمِ ٪﴿۸﴾

Then on that day you will surely be asked about the verity of pleasures.

— Ahmedali

Then, on that day, you will surely be questioned regarding the favours.

— Ahmedraza

Then, on that Day, ye shall surely be asked of the delights.

— Daryabadi

Then, on that Day, you shall be asked about the delight (you indulged in, in this world)!

— Hilali

Then, on that Day, you will be questioned about the Bliss.

— Itani

Then, on that Day, you will be called to account for all the bounties you enjoyed.

— Maududi

Then on that Day you shall be asked about the delights!

— Mubarakpuri

Then, on that day, ye will be asked concerning pleasure.

— Pickthall

On that Day, you shall be questioned about the pleasures.

— Qaribullah

Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure.

— Sahih

Then on that day you shall most certainly be questioned about the boons.

— Shakir

Then on that Day you shall be questioned about your worldly favours.

— Wahiduddin

Then, shall ye be questioned that Day about the joy (ye indulged in!).

— Yusufali

پھر اس روز تم سے (ہر) نعمت کی پوچھ ہوگی۔

— عبدالماجد دریابادی

پھر اس دن ضرور تم سے نعمتوں کے بارے میں باز پرس ہوگی۔

پھر یقینا تم اس دن نعمتوں کے بارے میں ضرور پوچھے جاؤ گے۔

پھر بیشک ضرور اس دن تم سے نعمتوں کی پرسش ہوگی

، پھر تم سے اس دن نعمتوں کے باب میں پرستش ہونی ہے تو

پھر اس دن تم سے ضرور پوچھا جائے گا نعمتوں کے بارے میں۔

پھر اس روز تم سے (شکر) نعمت کے بارے میں پرسش ہو گی

پھر اس دن تم سے ضرور بالضرور نعمتوں کا سوال ہوگا

پھر تم سے اس دن نعمتوں کے بارے میں پوچھا جائے گا (کہ ان کا کیا حق ادا کیا)

پھر ضرور اُس روز تم سے اِن نعمتوں کے بارے میں جواب طلبی کی جائے گی

پھر اس دن تم سے (اﷲ کی) نعمتوں کے بارے میں ضرور پوچھا جائے گا (کہ تم نے انہیں کہاں کہاں اور کیسے کیسے خرچ کیا تھا)،

then you shall be questioned that day concerning true bliss.

Then, on that day, you will surely be questioned concerning the Blessing.

Then, on that day, you will be questioned about the bounties (of God).
